Reinier Voet is teaching jazz guitar with the specialisation gypsy jazz guitar (left hand: arpeggio’s, ‘lick-idiom’, understanding of the fretboard etc.) and the right hand (how to use a plectrum, especially in the gypsy-style).
He uses ‘the guitar as your teacher’ as a central point, how to use the fretboard as a visual self-explanatory system, which Reinier considers so necessary for the improvising guitarist: understand the language you talk!
For an important part Django’s guitar style, nowadays called Gypsy Jazz Guitar is a starting point. But also more modern jazz guitar, standards and general (jazz) improvisation are taught. And don’t forget: Django Reinhardt was a jazz guitar player!
The last few years Reinier’s most important musical project isReinier Voet and Pigalle44, which he manages together with rhythm guitarist Jan Brouwer. Regular guests are Jelle van Tongeren (violin) and Hermine Deurloo (harmonica / sopranosax).
